Birthday Traditions Redux
We are reaching a time of year that we all need to start celebrating. It is the holiday season, and with the exception of a few religions, I think most people observe a holiday season at this time of year. They might not all fall on the same days, but they do all fall within the same range, so it would seem that we are all out and about getting ready for the swarm of holidays, and I do not think we get a good rest until January. Now I am one of those people who have birthdays hit in these 3 months, and it seems that they eat up a bit of time and energy, but we all need to make sure to celebrate people whose birthdays are mixed in with the holidays, so let me share with you where I took my youngest for their birthday this year.
My youngest turned 23 this year, and I have a tradition I try to observe for my kids every year; however, as they have grown older and moved out, I had to adjust what I did when they lived at home, so the birthday cupcake remains as sentimental as it is. has evolved into something different. Now, instead of a cupcake, when they wake up, I must order or deliver a cupcake. This was a little easier when I lived in Memphis because I knew where things were and the whos, whats, and hows of doing things, but since I moved, these things have come a little harder. Again, new technology never fails when it comes to finding a place to meet the needs of this mom at this dire time. We found a place to suit just what we needed, Dandy Ducks Bakery.
We arrived, and the place was charming, warm, inviting, and cozy. It should be an after-school spot for study groups or hangouts, and the type of low-key, not too much trouble type of things. The staff was pleasant and super helpful. The menu was easy to understand, and the idea that you can add toppings and such to your treat instead of it congealing to the items makes it a better, fresher experience. The entire place is adorable and has a great heart that welcomes you in. I had a snickerdoodle cookie, I have to say, I am a sugar addict, so yes, it was yumtastic. My youngest had a croissant, and they did it right. I will not even try to describe what's on it, but I think it was a chocolate explosion. Yes, she ate it for 2 days, and it was the best surprise find for the birthday child and my altered tradition. Dandy Ducks Bakery is a lovely little spot, and I hope they are still around for my birthday in a month. It is so hard to find a good bake shop as easily as I found this one, so please, if you could go show them some love and let them know we need this place. As always, add to the peace when you go somewhere, people are all trying to get by, so let's get by together.
