As the Omicron variant of The Covid 19 virus rages Memphis Schools attempt to operate safely.

Vaccine hesitancy is a concern in the Mid-south and across the nation.  With only a little more than 50 percent of the Residents of Shelby County fully vaccinated, the safety of the students in our school systems is a concern from many residents. The Shelby County Schools returned to the classroom on January Third despite the surge in pediatric Covid cases in Memphis. The State Governments Law: Tenn. Code § 14-2-104 prohibits mask mandates in schools with out express permission from Nashville.

Rhodes College has Announced that it's Spring Semester will be Remote until the 28th of January in an abundance of caution. Rhodes College is a private Institution and has a mask mandate and a campus-wide vaccination Requirement in place until further notice.

University of Memphis is continuing to require masks and strongly encouraging vaccinations to the faculty and student body. be worn indoors but classes will be in the classroom as the semester begins. This may change as the semester start grows closer.

Southwest Tennessee Community College will be virtual until the 25th of January. Like the University of Memphis, Southwest is a state School and the Recent passage of amendments to the Tennessee Code prohibit many of the protective measure used by the school in the early days of the pandemic, but masks are still required.
